In Their Footsteps
As
John Fisher illustrated, the human conscience is a very strong force.
For some, moral and ethical decisions are grounded in the fundamental
principles of their faith; for others, the choice is simply the
difference between right and wrong:
* In
the 1930’s, prominent German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemoller refused to
accept the Nazi government’s claim of authority over the Church. For
following his beliefs, Pastor Niemoller spent 8 years in Nazi
concentration camps.
* In
the 1960s, thousands of students protested the United States’
involvement in the Vietnam conflict.
* School-aged
children who stand up to frightening bullies in defense of others.
* Young
people who tell their peers they will not try drugs or alcohol.
Sometimes, deciding
what words to use and when it is appropriate to speak your mind can also
be a struggle. Listen to your spiritual voice and let God empower you.
